For the past few days, we’ve been obsessed with catching a kitten that found its way under Ashtabula’s main house. The kitten has a badly injured leg that looks like it’s separated from the hip. The poor little guy’s been dragging it behind him as he crawls along on his other good legs.
I’ve gotta say – for a cat missing a leg, he was certainly tough to catch. Greg and I tried to catch him Friday morning while he was eating his breakfast, but he backed away the moment we edged too close.
Yesterday, Ellen – the volunteer coordinator at Ashtabula – and I tried to throw a large towel over him while he was eating his lunch, but he was gone before it landed. My hairdresser (Sherri at Headlines in Clemson – she’s awesome) put us in touch with Voices for Animals in Anderson, who loaned us a cat trap.
Even though Alex (yes, I’ve named him already, though Greg wants to call him Tiny Tim) had already eaten his meal for the day, he went right into the cage as soon as he smelled the tuna. He was enjoying his evening snack so much he didn’t even notice that the trap had closed, and that he had no way out. He’s a kitten after my own heart.
Greg and I brought him home for the night until Voices for Animals could arrange for a vet to see him. Right now, he’s at the Animal Hospital at Liberty Highway in Anderson, who seem like a wonderful group of people. They are one of several animal hospitals who work with Voices for Animals to treat injured stray or feral cats, and also donate spay/neuter services to the rescue organization to help keep cat populations from continuing to rise. Alex is being checked out now, and I’m worried to death about the little guy. This is a quick photo we took of him last night, after he started to settle down.
He’s such a sweet little thing. Will post an update when we find out how he’s doing.
The pups have also insisted I add a quick note about how disgruntled they are about this whole cat thing. The cat was in their study all night long, and we didn’t allow them in to investigate. They are demonstrating their displeasure by making complete nuisances of themselves.
And since there’s a photo of the kitten in here, they have asked for equal consideration. So here are two shots of the pups.

Love that Emma is little!
And love the Slabbernabbers nickname as well haha!
Hope everything works out with Alex or Tiny Tim
OOOps that was from Sheri not Sheriq…..
[...] The event is led by Anderson Voices for Animals – many of you will recall this is the group that saved our very own Alex P. Kitten. [...]
